Vargem Grande Farm was a productive coffee farm at the time of Imperial Brazil, circa 1837. The region, known as "Coffee Barons" was the financial backbone of the Empire. In 1973 it was acquired and restored by the current owners. At that time the landscaping architect and artist Roberto Burle Marx was commissioned to create one of the most extraordinary and beautiful gardens of his career, right here at the foot of the Serra da Bocaina (Bocaina Mountains).

To the restored Mansion was added a new wing respecting the original style. But the difference between old and new is almost imperceptible,  its design and architectural details are astonishingly mingled.  The kitchen for instance, is a large space with a wood stove decorated with XVIIth century Portuguese azulejos. This kitchen is so special that has been chosen for a gastronomic TV series. The food made on it becomes an unforgettable memory. The house and the kitchen are full of amazing details and turn the visit to this 1837's mansion in  a magical and memorable experience.
